Notes
Step-by-Step Directions
1. Preparing the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
2. Making the Hot Honey Sauce:
In a small saucepan, combine honey, chili flakes, and apple cider vinegar.
Heat over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warm and the flavors meld together.
Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
3. Assembling the Pizza:
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place your pizza stone in the oven while it heats.
Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel (if using a stone).
Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border.
Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
Add pepperoni slices and drizzle a small amount of hot honey on top.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil, and drizzle more hot honey before serving.
Tips for the Perfect Crust
Preheat Your Stone:
A hot pizza stone ensures a crispy crust.
Use Bread Flour:
For a chewier texture, swap all-purpose flour for bread flour.
Avoid Overloading:
Too many toppings can make the crust soggy.
Hot Honey Variations and Substitutions
Mild Honey:
Swap chili flakes for smoked paprika if you prefer less heat.
Vegan Version:
Use vegan cheese and agave syrup instead of honey.
Additional Toppings:
Try caramelized onions, goat cheese, or arugula for added flair.
